S o in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. This sums up every conceivable moral law and is nothing more or less than an act of love. There will be times when you will find something acceptable for yourself that others find objectionable. In such cases, use wise judgment and do not allow yourself to be controlled or manipulated by the caprice of others. Do all to the honor and glory of God.
What a magnificent dictum! Since I desire for myself the best that life has to offer, why should I desire less for my fellow? Why should I treat him in a lesser manner than I treat myself? Is it possible that when I treat others in this manner, that I predispose them to treat me in the same way? Of course! Yet again, his ideal is tempered by his earthy realism. There are those who are already predisposed toward me with hostility. I mean well for them. They mean evil for me. Or what is worse, they mean to control me and demand that I conform to their own conceit. These I resist and endeavor to keep my focus on that which I believe honors the Father.
